are they going to do about california. for me, that is the big question. california, the prop 8 decision where voters of california voted to allow same-sex marriages and then a few months later voted to write into the state constitution that such unions were illegal. if the supreme court decides not to take up that case, then people in california -- gay people in california would be able to get married almost immediately. but if they do take up the case, then the question of a right to marry goes to the supreme court. very fascinating time. >> are you surprised that they decided not to -- >> yes, i am surprised. and i will be even more surprised if they don't do something on monday. i think a lot of people are waiting. >> i'm hoping that the supreme court will weigh in on this. i want to see the courts and perhaps the legislature deal with this and not leave to the voters because the voters often get these things wrong. i don't think civil rights question shoes go to voters partly because you get into the thing of the whim of the voters and where the political whims are. we don't vote in this

storms pounding north california, oregon, and washington as we speak. nbc's migel almaguer is in san francisco where it is pouring down rain. migel, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we are in the middle of the second weather maker making it through the pacific northwest. i have to tell you, it feels like san francisco is in the bull's eye. it was hammering rain earlier for several hours, then had howling winds. the conditions let up. meteorologists say this is what to expect through the day. as a matter of fact, early in the week in san francisco wednesday, wind speeds topped 80 miles per hour. they're not expecting those type of winds earlier or later today, but they certainly are expecting downed trees and downed power lines to cause them several issues. at the higher elevations, closer to 7,000 feet in the sierra, they're expecting up to a foot of snow, so it is going to be certainly a wet day in the sierra, in the lower elevations, closer in the lower foothills, we expect up to 12 inches of rain by sunday. we're looking at very wet conditions. here in the bay area where t

me take you into it. this morning, by far the worst weather all through california. i just read something that at some of the highest elevations in the mountains in california could get up to 100 inches of snow. 100 inches of snow over the next three to four days. crazy. it's raining hard this morning in san francisco to sacramento. san francisco, it's going to be a rainy three days. another big storm coming in saturday afternoon, saturday night. it's going to rain through sunday. you get a break monday, then another storm on tuesday. we have a lot of flooding concerns in the rivers in california in the days ahead. let me take you through the forecast as we go at it. this huge storm in the west, it's not going to move across the country. it's just going to stall out. if you're anywhere from denver to the east coast, don't expect a lot of wet weather this weekend. it should mostly be dry. and notice the temperatures. they're warming up in the middle of the country, and that will head east as we go throughout the weekend. so your friday forecast, really no airport concerns out the
